# 4.1 Smart Contracts

Automated Protocol Execution Through On-Chain Logic

GateKey operates through a set of smart contracts that automate membership validation, token locking, tier assignment, and reward distribution. These smart contracts form the core operational layer of the protocol and ensure that all participation rules are executed consistently without manual intervention.

Smart contracts within the GateKey ecosystem are deployed on BNB Smart Chain and are responsible for maintaining transparency, reliability, and predictable behavior across all protocol operations. By using automated execution logic, the system removes dependency on centralized control and ensures that membership and reward processes remain verifiable on-chain.

The smart contract structure is designed to support modular functionality, allowing different protocol components to operate independently while remaining connected through shared validation logic.

#### **Membership Contract** <a href="#membership-contract" id="membership-contract"></a>

The membership contract manages the locking of GKT tokens and determines the eligibility of users for membership tiers. This contract records the amount of tokens locked by each participant and verifies whether the required thresholds for membership levels are met.

Core responsibilities include:

* Recording locked token balances
* Validating membership eligibility
* Assigning tier status
* Maintaining membership state
* Updating tier levels when balances change

This contract ensures that all membership levels are determined automatically based on token commitment.

***

#### **Reward Distribution Contract** <a href="#reward-distribution-contract" id="reward-distribution-contract"></a>

The reward distribution contract manages the allocation of rewards to eligible participants. It calculates reward eligibility based on locked balances and membership tier levels recorded during each epoch cycle.

Core responsibilities include:

* Calculating reward eligibility
* Distributing epoch-based rewards
* Recording reward balances
* Managing reward claim operations
* Supporting reward re-locking mechanisms

This contract ensures that reward allocation follows transparent and predictable rules.

#### **Tier Validation Logic** <a href="#tier-validation-logic" id="tier-validation-logic"></a>

Tier validation logic operates as an automated verification system that evaluates staking balances against predefined thresholds. This logic ensures that users are assigned the correct membership tier at each validation cycle.

Validation responsibilities include:

* Evaluating staking thresholds
* Confirming tier eligibility
* Updating membership status
* Maintaining fairness across participants

This logic supports accurate and consistent tier management across the protocol.

#### **Governance Integration** <a href="#governance-integration" id="governance-integration"></a>

Smart contracts within GateKey support governance functionality by enabling proposal management and voting processes. Eligible participants may interact with governance contracts to participate in decision-making activities.

Governance-related responsibilities include:

* Recording governance proposals
* Managing voting participation
* Tracking proposal outcomes
* Updating protocol parameters when approved

This integration enables decentralized decision-making within the ecosystem.

#### **Upgradeable Architecture Considerations** <a href="#upgradeable-architecture-considerations" id="upgradeable-architecture-considerations"></a>

The GateKey smart contract system is designed with long-term adaptability in mind. Where appropriate, upgradeable structures may be implemented to allow protocol improvements while preserving core data integrity.

Upgradeable design supports:

* Feature improvements
* Performance optimization
* Security enhancements
* Ecosystem expansion

All upgrades are intended to follow transparent procedures to maintain user confidence and system reliability.
