# 3.1 Token Utility

Core Functional Roles of the GKT Token

The GateKey Token (GKT) serves as the primary functional asset within the GateKey ecosystem. It enables membership activation, reward participation, governance eligibility, and controlled access across supported platforms.

GKT is not designed as a passive token. Instead, it functions as an operational component that connects user participation with protocol activity. All membership privileges and reward eligibility within the GateKey system depend on the locking and maintenance of GKT tokens.

#### **Membership Activation** <a href="#membership-activation" id="membership-activation"></a>

The primary utility of GKT is enabling membership within the GateKey protocol. Users lock GKT tokens to activate membership tiers and gain access to protocol features.

Membership activation through GKT enables:

* Entry into tier-based membership levels
* Access to ecosystem features
* Participation eligibility within campaigns
* Tier recognition across integrated platforms

Membership tiers remain active as long as the required locked balance is maintained.

***

#### **Tier-Based Access Control** <a href="#tier-based-access-control" id="tier-based-access-control"></a>

GKT functions as a decentralized access control mechanism within the GateKey ecosystem. Access permissions are determined based on the amount of GKT tokens locked by a participant.

This tier-based system allows:

* Automated access validation
* Permission-based feature availability
* Priority access across supported services
* Structured participation rights

This removes the need for manual approval systems and ensures transparent access management.

***

#### **Reward Participation** <a href="#reward-participation" id="reward-participation"></a>

GKT tokens enable users to participate in the protocol's reward program. Participants who lock GKT tokens become eligible to receive periodic rewards based on their membership tier.

Reward-related utility includes:

* Eligibility for epoch-based rewards
* Tier-weighted reward allocation
* Accumulation of rewards over time
* Optional re-locking of earned rewards

This reward mechanism encourages continued participation and long-term ecosystem engagement.

***

#### **Governance Participation** <a href="#governance-participation" id="governance-participation"></a>

GKT supports governance participation within the GateKey ecosystem. Eligible members may participate in governance processes that influence selected protocol parameters.

Governance-related utility includes:

* Participation in protocol decision processes
* Voting on selected updates
* Community-driven parameter adjustments
* Contribution to ecosystem direction

Governance eligibility may depend on maintaining qualifying membership tiers.

***

#### **Platform Integration Utility** <a href="#platform-integration-utility" id="platform-integration-utility"></a>

GKT tokens support integration across external platforms that adopt GateKey membership validation. Integrated platforms may verify user eligibility based on GKT tier status.

Integration-based utility includes:

* Token-gated access to supported services
* Tier-based eligibility validation
* Participation across integrated applications
* Access synchronization across platforms

This capability allows GateKey to function as a reusable membership infrastructure across multiple environments.
